The hardest thing about maintaining your company's blog is content creation and keeping your readers interested. Here are a few things to consider when developing your blog.
- First off you need to understand what your readers want to hear about from you. Consider yourself the expert in your organisation's field and write about topics that show your readers that you are an expert.
- Display your blog in a highly visible place on your website. It is a good idea to provide a snippet of your organisation's most recently published blog on your homepage to drive visitors to the blog.
- Keep it interesting, relevant to the audience and mix it up, i.e. invite a guest to blog every now and again for your organisation.
- Link to pages within your website. If your blog contains references to articles or company projects or products mentioned elsewhere within your website, link these words to related webpages in your site. This will help with your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
- Use keywords that are relevant to what users would type when searching for content contained within your blog. This will also help with your SEO.
- Make it available to share on mediums that your readers use.
- Consider different media that is relevant to what you’re talking about and what your readers will enjoy, i.e. if your blog is a tutorial, use videos.
- Remember to add value to what you are writing. No one wants to read about a topic they already know plenty about. Try to benefit your readers and teach them something new.
- Don't be afraid to express your personal thoughts. Readers love hearing a blogger's opinion as it keeps the blogger honest and provides a different perspective.
- Provide your reader with a task. Get them to read something else ot apply something you've informed them on.
